St. Regis Rome — Inner Courtyard Requalification Visualization

A courtyard proposal that used structure, vegetation and image to give a historic void a new centre.

The Challenge

The inner courtyard of a historic hotel is enclosed, vertical and already full of architectural memory. Any new intervention has to establish presence without denying the existing surfaces, scale or central axis.

In collaboration with architect Sara Murru, I developed photographic simulations and concept views for the proposed requalification of the St. Regis Rome inner courtyard. The project needed to be understood in plan, elevation, 3D concept and photo insertion, not only through drawings.

The Direction

The proposal introduced a metal structure with integrated planting as a new organising element in the central void. The structure created a vertical and spatial frame: visible from the courtyard, legible from above and capable of carrying vegetation without masking the architecture behind it.

The visual work moved across several scales. Photo insertion tested the proposal against the existing courtyard. The 2D concept clarified position and proportions. The 3D concept made the central structure and its spatial rhythm visible as an experience rather than an abstraction.
